
Making manufacturing worth exploring
Plastic Parts USA sells a process most buyers never get to see. We rebuilt the company’s web presence around letting them see it.
Every molder’s website is the same website
Search for injection molding and open the first ten results. A hero photo of a press. A row of capability tiles. Calipers resting on a drawing. A contact form. The copy is interchangeable, and none of it tells a sourcing engineer whether this shop can hold their tolerance, run their resin, or carry their volume.
That sameness is a commercial problem before it is an aesthetic one. Contract molding is a considered purchase with a long evaluation window. The buyer is an engineer or a sourcing lead comparing four or five shops on technical fit well before anyone discusses price. When every site presents the same brochure, the buyer has no basis for separating them, so the decision falls back to whoever answered the phone first or quoted lowest.
Plastic Parts USA arrived with that problem and a real advantage sitting underneath it: domestic capacity, deep process knowledge, and a rep firm model built for engagement rather than order taking. None of it was visible on the web.
Participation beats persuasion
The build rests on one idea. Manufacturing is genuinely interesting, and a technical buyer will explore it if you give them something worth exploring.
In practice that meant inverting the usual structure. Instead of pushing every visitor toward a contact form as quickly as possible, we gave them things worth doing: reference material worth reading, tools worth using, and a way to ask a real question and get a real answer. The contact conversation happens later, with a buyer who already understands the shop’s capability because they spent fifteen minutes proving it to themselves.
This is a slower funnel by design. It also produces a qualified conversation instead of a form fill.
The buyer is not one person either. A part passes through a design engineer who cares about geometry and material, a quality lead who cares about repeatability and documentation, and a sourcing manager who cares about capacity, lead time and where the parts are made. A brochure speaks to none of them precisely. We wrote and structured for all three and let the visitor sort themselves.
Depth was the bet, so we made it visible
Two molders with comparable presses look identical in a search result. What separates them in a buyer’s mind is whether the shop demonstrably knows more about the problem in front of them than the buyer does.
That argument can only be made with volume and specificity, so the content is architected as a pillar and cluster system rather than a blog. A comprehensive guide anchors each subject, and deep pages branch from it to answer the questions that guide raises. Each of those pages is written to stand on its own for somebody who lands there cold from search.
The structure does two jobs at once. A buyer working through a decision can follow it in the order their thinking actually moves. A crawler sees a tightly interlinked topical cluster with unambiguous hierarchy and reads the site as a source on the subject rather than a company that happens to sell it.
What we built
An interactive sitemap
Depth is only an asset if a buyer can see it, and most technical sites bury theirs three clicks down. We built the interactive sitemap experience as an explorable map of the whole property rather than the boilerplate XML list nobody opens. It works as navigation and doubles as proof of range.
Navigation rebuilt around questions
The original menu was organized around the company. We reorganized it around what the buyer actually needs to know: what can you make, what material should I use, how should I design the part, where do you serve.
DFM reference content
Design for manufacturability guidance, a working glossary, and a technical material data tool. This is the material an engineer needs at the moment they are still deciding whether their part is moldable at all, which is exactly the moment most molders leave them alone with a PDF.
Domestic coverage as a story
A coverage section spanning roughly forty United States markets, structured around reshoring rather than around keyword doorways. Each market exists because domestic supply is the argument, not because a search phrase existed.
A performance pass
The site was heavy. Everything above is worthless if the page takes twenty seconds to paint on a phone standing in a plant.
Results
The LCP figure is the one that carries commercial weight. Twenty seconds is not a slow page, it is an abandoned page. At 2.4 seconds the content gets read.
The payload reduction came from unglamorous work. Correctly sized imagery in modern formats, non critical script deferred, fonts subset, and plugin weight that was loading site wide in order to serve a single page taken out of the critical path. No rewrite, no framework change, no redesign. The site scoring 96 is the same site that scored 68.
Alongside the performance work, the PolyAtlas content hub shipped as one pillar guide and five deep cluster pages covering cost, molding against 3D printing, part design, defects, and material selection. All of it is interlinked and carries Article, FAQ and Breadcrumb structured data.
What we would tell another molder
Three decisions carried most of the result.
Write for the engineer, not the procurement portal
The person who decides you are technically credible is rarely the person who signs the purchase order. Convince the first one and the second one tends to follow. Most manufacturing sites are written for the signature and skip the credibility entirely.
Give the knowledge away
Every hour of DFM guidance published is an hour a sales engineer does not spend on the phone with somebody who was never going to quote. It is also the cheapest credibility a shop can buy, because competitors can copy your capability list in an afternoon and cannot copy fifty pages of demonstrated judgment.
Treat speed as content
A page nobody waits for is a page nobody reads. Performance is not maintenance work that happens after launch, it is the precondition for everything else on this list mattering at all.
The part that keeps working
A site like this earns attention once. Holding it takes something that answers back.
